This well serves the need of approximately 250 people in a village in the district of Medinipur, West Bengal, about 110 kilometers from Kolkata, India.  Dug at a depth of 400 feet this well provides clean drinking water to the residents of the village.  Prior to the construction of this well the villagers used to either walk 1.5 kilometers to another well to get water or use water from a nearby pond that was contaminated.  Our well now provides not only clean drinking water to the villagers, but also allows them to use the time and energy saved, as a result of our wells proximity, into more productive uses.
