This well is located in a primary school in a small village Tamuluk in the district of Medinipur, West Bengal, about 100 kilometers from Kolkata, India. The school has 194 students all under the age of 10. The water from our well is used by the school children and teachers as well as by the kitchen for the children's free midday meal. The free midday meal is an incentive for the villagers to send their kids to school and has been very effective to improve classroom attendance and thereby education levels in this small community. .
