This well is located in the village of Showberia in the district of Medinipur, West Bengal, about 110 kilometers from Kolkata, India. Our well is situated on a mud track at the end of the village. 150 families are beneficiaries of this well besides villagers and schoolchildren who are heading down the mud path to the main road a few kilometers away. The main occupation of the villagers is growing flowers primarily roses for sale in the big city of Kolkata. We estimate that average monthly household income in this village is less than $90.
